NEWS
August, 2010

Our most important news is that Naples Beach is just as you remember. We remain unaffected by the gulf oil spill!

WE’RE ENJOYING REFRESHING TROPICAL RAINS

Naples is very quiet this summer, and cooler with daily rains from 3 to 5PM.   Average temperatures are 89 F days & 76 F nights; after a 30 minute shower, the temps drop ten degrees or more. You can plan your day around it.

OUR GUESTS ARE INVESTING

Summer guests are closing escrows or looking to buy. One newly retired couple sold their home up north and were looking to buy here.  They were considering a new 3 bedroom/2 bath town home with one car garage near I-75 for $145K. Rather than act quickly, they decided to rent for a year so they’d have more time to find the perfect location.

People who walk the beach and desire Olde Naples may find condos in the $300 to 600K range. It seems every vacant lot or old home in downtown has a new home in progress.

I read that the Port Royal area is getting 85% of their asking price and many sales are closing without an agent.

NEW BUSINESS AFOOT?

Jackson Laboratory a nonprofit genetics research institute is in proposal stages for a new campus near Ave Maria. Jackson is an economic hub in Bar Harbor Maine - but will a biomedical campus do the same here? It would require a $130M property tax levy or other measures as a local match to state funding. The lab would build a 165,000-sq-ft research center on 50 acres donated by Barron Collier Company and pledged 250 acres for a biomedical village with clinic, hospital and charter high school. The idea is to make biomedical clustering happen, providing jobs and promoting economic diversity.  The Collier County Commission is scheduled to decide at a public hearing scheduled whether to go forward with this project. Naples needs to vote on it.

WHAT TO EXPECT FALL & WINTER 2010/2011

The season will bring surprising events and great bargains:

- Upscale has turned to casual with street activities and budget friendly shops.
- 5th Avenue is getting more family friendly with pizza by the slice and Coney Island hot dogs.
- The city is allowing music 3 days a week until 12PM.
- Many restaurants are offering dinner for two with a bottle of wine for $29.95.
- Dog owners can now dine with their pet at some restaurants and cafes with outside seating.
- 5th Avenue is even going to have its first “Stiletto Race” for a National Women’s Cancer Benefit!

We are offering a 15% discount for 4 week stays and 10% discount for 2 week stays through 9/30/10.

GONDOLIER UPDATES
